Jacques Offenbach, a European musician
Since 2008 the symposia of the Opéra Comique have been surveying opera from various angles, associating many research partners in transdisciplinary and international sessions of work and exchange. There have been two lines of research : one on the company and staff of our house, the other on operatic economy. Besides, each June a symposium is organized in honor of a composer. After Saint-Saëns in 2017 and Gounod in 2018, this is Offenbach’s turn.
International symposium for the bicentennial of Offenbach organized in Cologne (19-20 June, Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln) and in Paris (21-22 June, Opéra Comique)
Scholars from all over Europe meet to share their latest findings on Offenbach, his huge oeuvre and his European career between Cologne, Paris and Vienna. As no other composer has been so good at addressing the society of his time, the cultural nineteenth century will also be honored, grasped through the experiences and productions of a tireless observer.
In collaboration with the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln, the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Frankfurt am Main, the Université de Versailles Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines / Université Paris-Saclay, the École Pratique des Hautes Études and the Palazzetto Bru Zane.
