In June 2015, singers from the Académie de l’Opéra Comique will perform a new presentation of Mousquetaires au Couvent, an operetta by Louis Varney, directed by Jérôme Deschamps. This production explores the theme of disguise and cross-dressing, a burlesque tribute to all those female roles sung by men and the countless female characters played by men, which ultimately add to the charm, impertinence, and audacity of French opera. Just as clothes do not always make the man, vocal range does not always make the character!
Through a series of works, selected and studied during their time at the Opéra Comique, the singers will provide us with an insight, over the course of this Nomadic Night, into the process of learning and the preparation required for concerts, as well as the way in which play and singing combine in the tradition of the operetta repertoire. The singers will be given a master class by Franck Leguérinel and by Jérôme Deschamps, for what promises to be a very lively concert.
