This season, the Opéra-Comique expands its scale and horizon. While the modernisation of the stage tower is underway, a unique chapter opens: that of a theatre in motion, temporarily leaving the Salle Favart. Off site, yet ever faithful to its transmission spirit, the Opéra-Comique continues its artistic adventure by multiplying forms, venues and encounters.
Remarkable venues
Lyric productions take over unexpected spaces, reshaping the relationship with audiences. From the Eiffel Hall of the Lycée Carnot—where Zaïde ou Le Chemin de Lumière unfolds at dusk—to the urban promenade of Carmen, opera-landscape conceived as a living journey through the city, each project explores new ways of inhabiting music and theatre. In Gennevilliers, L'Histoire du soldat and Into the Little Hill bring together different eras and artistic forms, while Pascal Dusapin's new work Heaven & Hell will gather more than 200 performers beneath the nave of the Grand Palais for an extraordinary choral experience.
The Opéra-Comique sets sail
This touring season continues with The Opéra- Comique’s Fabulous History, which will stage in many cities between January and May 2027. Directed by Léo Cohen-Paperman and performed by artists of the Academie, this festive and popular production celebrates the genre’s constant reinvention as well as its fairground origins while reconnecting with a tradition of itinerant performances to meet audiences.
The Foyer, a creative laboratory
Happy anniversary! The Maîtrise is celebrating its 10th anniversary with Pene Pati
At the heart of this dynamic, the Campus Favart reaffirms its role in transmission more than ever. The Maîtrise Populaire of the Opéra-Comique celebrates ten years of artistic, educational and social commitment to young people. By its side, the new Academie cohort, with twice as many performers, embodies the vitality of French singing and the promise of tomorrow’s talents. Between movement and continuity, this season— both on and off site—invites audiences to rediscover the Opéra-Comique anew: that of a living theatre, opened to a constant dialogue with its time and its audiences.
Le Campus de l’Opéra-Comique : découvrez les talents de demain
The Campus Favart aims to train the artists, professionals and audiences who will shape the opera of tomorrow.
It embodies a vision of opera that is firmly focused on younger generations, where training lies at the heart of the artistic project and where the stage is a living learning space. As the heir to a genre where theatre and music intertwine, the Campus champions a rigorous multidisciplinary approach that pays close attention to the dynamics of the stage. Designed in this way, this structure... Conceived in this way, this organisational structure strengthens the cohesion between the theatre’s various departments and firmly establishes the passing on of knowledge as one of the key pillars of its development.
During this season of outreach events, the artistic resources of the Campus Favart will be mobilised to further enhance the Opéra-Comique’s reputation in Paris and beyond.
Two intake cohorts for the Académie de l’Opéra-Comique
The Académie de l’Opéra-Comique is aimed at young artists at the start of their careers
– singers, conductors and vocal coaches – who wish to train in the unique world of opéra-comique. It teaches a demanding repertoire, in which the subtle interplay between speech and song constitutes a unique skill, and offers participants a comprehensive stage experience.
An exceptional training programme with a global outlook
The programme combines masterclasses with internationally renowned guest artists, multidisciplinary one-to-one coaching, in-depth work on the repertoire, and immersion in the company’s opera productions. Since 2026, exceptional partnerships, notably with The Juilliard School, have opened up unique opportunities to broaden artistic practice and foster international exchange.
Committed to making opera accessible to all, the Academy also organises artistic and cultural initiatives for a wide range of audiences. Its members visit schools, healthcare and social care facilities, and other community venues, staging concerts and educational sessions designed to bring opera to young people and those who are unable to attend or who are otherwise excluded from cultural activities.
A springboard to the national stage
A paid programme spanning an entire season, the Academy fosters artistic development and prepares young talents for their professional careers. In 2026–2027, the Academy will focus on two flagship projects: the creation of *La Fabuleuse Histoire de l’Opéra-Comique*, a show touring throughout France, and a programme of concerts and recitals at the Foyer and beyond, offering Academy members the opportunity...
More than just a school, the Académie de l’Opéra-Comique is a true artistic laboratory where operatic tradition meets innovation, and where every young artist is supported in their development into a well-rounded performer, capable of shining on any stage.
The Maîtrise Populaire celebrates 10 years of success and promise with Pene Pati
Aimed at young people aged 8 to 20, from Year 5 to post-A-levels, the Maîtrise Populaire de l’Opéra-Comique offers an artistic education of the highest standard, open to all, with no prior musical experience required. It is based on a multidisciplinary approach combining singing, drama, dance, tap dancing, piano and stage work, in classes with flexible timetables or as part of a dual-track programme.
Convinced that artistic practice is a powerful catalyst for empowerment, the Maîtrise bases its teaching approach on social and geographical diversity. This targeted recruitment ensures a stimulating diversity and makes the study of the performing arts a genuine tool for equal opportunities. This ambition is reflected in the figures: in 2016–2017, the majority of students were from Paris; today, nearly 70 per cent of the student body consists of young people from outside Paris.
In both academic and artistic terms, the results confirm the strength of the project, with a 100% pass rate in the baccalaureate since its inception. Over the past ten years, more than 300 pupils have been trained in the choir’s teaching methods and over 2,000 schoolchildren have been auditioned as part of the recruitment tour.
The training is a long-term commitment, supporting the educational, artistic and personal development of each individual, and preparing some for a professional career. On stage, the Maîtrise Populaire has established itself as a fully-fledged artistic force, with over 240 performances since its inception.
This season, an anniversary programme looks back on a decade of artistic excellence and educational innovation through hybrid projects that further its mission of inclusivity.
We would like to thank Pene Pati for agreeing to be their patron for this exceptional season.
