Orpheus lost is wife Eurycide on their wedding day. Bravely, he goes and look for her in Hell, confronting monsters and furies and finally finding her in the world of gentle shadows. Will he be able to bring her back from the dead after promising the gods he wouldn’t set eyes on her?
Orpheus is the foundation myth of western opera history It depicts music and chant as forces which are stronger than death and more powerful than Hell. The visual artist Valérie Lesort adopts an enchanting and humorous approach to Gluck’s work, regarding the performers and the puppets. A delightful performance to introduce children to lyrical chant.
