« Carmen to Go! »
To bring this approach to life, a touring tool has been designed this season: the multi-sensory educational suitcase named « Carmen to Go! ». It allows audiences to discover the opéra-comique genre and the inner workings of the house through Georges Bizet's work, thanks to multi-sensory and modular activities, adapted to the needs of each institution and the curiosity of each participant.
What is the project about?
The educational suitcase « Carmen to Go! » invites audiences to discover opera and theatre through three complementary modules:
- The history of the Opéra-Comique: from its creation in the 18th century to its installation in the present-day building, retracing the theatre's evolution.
- The story of Carmen: discovering the work, its creation, and its importance in the opéra-comique repertoire.
- How an opera house works: exploring the trades, the orchestra and the behind-the-scenes to understand how a show is made.
The activities, adapted to all types of audiences, engage the different senses: tactile, visual, olfactory and auditory. Each workshop can be conducted independently, by following a module or by selecting specific activities depending on the audience and the educational objectives.
A tailored experience
Accompanied by a member of the outreach team, the suitcase offers a unique experience at every session. It concretely illustrates the link between the venue, the work and the professions of opera, while inviting participants to interact and handle certain objects.
Reaching out to audiences
Through this educational tool, the Opéra-Comique pursues its mission of sharing and transmission. The outreach team will travel to partner institutions with cultural action programmes built around music, the trades and the behind-the-scenes of an opera, in order to reach an ever wider and more diverse audience.
