The Académie of the Opéra-Comique in New York with the Juilliard School

Following a week of exchanges in Paris, the Académie’s artists were reunited with those from the Juilliard School in New York, where the second stage of the Campus Favart’s first international exchange programme took place.

A few days after welcoming students from The Juilliard School’s Marcus Institute for Vocal Arts to the Salle Favart, the Opéra-Comique continued the dialogue on the other side of the Atlantic. On 14 May 2026, artists from the Academy performed at Paul Hall, at the heart of The Juilliard School, for a Franco-American evening shared with Juilliard artists.

This concert follows on from a two-week exchange residency which, in May 2026, brought together two singers and one pianist from each institution to perform French and American repertoires. Following the recital at the Salle Favart on 5 May and the recital at the Cercle France-Amériques on 7 May, the programme moved to New York, where the artists performed a mix of French mélodies and American songs before an audience at Juilliard.

The partnership was launched on 23 March 2026 at the Villa Albertine, in the Payne Whitney Mansion, with a masterclass by Louis Langrée devoted to the French repertoire. Alongside Mohamed Bouabdallah, France’s Cultural Attaché to the United States and Director of the Villa Albertine, and Brian Zeger, Artistic Director of the Juilliard School’s Voice Department, the three institutions have laid the foundations for a collaborative project set to run over two seasons: masterclasses, coaching sessions and joint concerts, in both Paris and New York.

This New York leg of the tour illustrates the ambition of Campus Favart: to train the artists of tomorrow by building bridges between the performing arts, institutions and generations. Plans are already in place for a masterclass at the Villa Albertine on 6 November 2026, and for a new two-week exchange in March 2027, split between the two cities.
