Originally from South Korea, Hana S. Kim is a video artist and visual artist specializing in live performance, from cinema to public art. She is interested in creating multisensory experiences that echo the experience of migration. A Tony Award winner, her theatrical design work has been presented in the United States and internationally. Her art installations have been exhibited at the Annenberg Space for Photography in Los Angeles, the Jordan Downs Recreation Center, Occidental College, and the Baryshnikov Arts Center in New York. She has received Tony Awards (The Outsiders), Princess Grace Awards in theater design, the Richard Sherwood Award from CTG, and the Kinetic Lighting Award for outstanding achievement in theater design from the LA Drama Critics Circle. She has been nominated for Lucille Lortel Awards. Her work has been recognized by the Helen Hayes Award, the Stage Raw Awards, the StageSceneLA Awards, and the Bay Area Theater Critics Circle Awards. She is a member of United Scenic Artists Local 829. Recent projects include Redwood at the Nederlander Theatre, Real Women Have Curves at the James Earl Jones Theatre, Sumo at the Public Theater, The Outsiders at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre, The Old Man and The Pool at Lincoln Center Theater, Summer 1976 at Manhattan Theatre Club, and Orfeo at Santa Fe Opera. She holds a BFA in visual communication from Seoul National University and an MFA from the University of California, Los Angeles.
