Gianluca Stefani

Gianluca Stefani is a researcher at the University of Florence, where he teaches History of Theatre and Performance. He directs the project Eunuchus. The Image of the Castrati in Baroque Society, between Spectacle and Medicine, in collaboration with the Department of Biomedical, Experimental and Clinical Sciences “Mario Serio” of the University of Florence and with the Careggi University Hospital of Florence. He has been a research fellow at the Giorgio Cini Foundation in Venice. He is a member of the scientific committee of the journal Studi goldoniani, co-editor of the current-affairs online portal Drammaturgia.it, and editorial secretary of the print and digital journal Drammaturgia.

He has published essays on Italian theatre and on Venetian musical theatre of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Among his works are the volumes I due “gemelli” veneziani. Francesco & Francesco Santurini uomini di teatro al servizio della Serenissima Repubblica (2023) and Sebastiano Ricci impresario d’opera a Venezia nel primo Settecento (2015), winner of the 2014 “Città di Firenze” Research Award.
