After obtaining a degree in Performing Arts from the École normale supérieure in Lyon, Antonio Cuenca Ruiz joined La Monnaie in Brussels as a dramaturge until 2019. He regularly collaborates with Silvia Costa - the oratorio Juditha Triumphans (Vivaldi) at the Stuttgart Opera and Combattimento, the Theory of the Black Swan (a montage of works by Monteverdi, Cavalli and Rossi) at the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence -, and Peter Sellars - La Clémence de Titus and Idoménée (Mozart) at the Salzburg Festival, Kopernikus (Vivier) at the Festival d'Automne in Paris, Roman de Fauvel at the Théâtre du Châtelet and Médée (Charpentier) at the Berlin Staatsoper.

As a dramaturge, his recent and future projects include The Coronation of Poppea (Monteverdi, Festival d'Aix-en-Provence) directed by Ted Huffman, The Gospel According to The Other Mary (John Adams, Vienna Volksoper) directed by Lisenka Heijboer Castañón, and The Player (Prokofiev, Salzburg Festival) directed by Peter Sellars.

In October 2020, he devised and presented Les Quotidiennes at the Opéra de Lille, a series of readings revealing little-known works by 17th-century French women authors. At the Fémis Screenplay Workshop, he is currently developing Clairières dans le ciel, a feature-length screenplay inspired by the melodies of composer Lili Boulanger.
