A committed and ongoing approach
All of these actions contribute to strengthening collective understanding of disability issues and improving accessibility at the Opéra-Comique, both for its employees and its audiences. Participation in SEEPH and Duoday is part of the company's commitment to gradually integrating more inclusive practices into its activities.
20 november : Duoday
The Opéra-Comique welcomed several people in pairs with in-house professionals as part of the Duoday initiative. This day provided an opportunity to discover the various professions, workspaces and operations of the theatre.
Feedback from Duoday participants
The trainees shared their impressions of this immersion day, which gave them a concrete overview of the artistic, technical and administrative activities of the theatre.
Here are some of their comments:
‘I was very happy to visit the Opéra-Comique. I have had the opportunity to attend many operas here. What I liked was seeing ’behind the scenes": the costume making, the backstage area, the rehearsal room upstairs... and especially all the people who do such a wonderful job to contribute to the excellence of the performances. I was with Marion in the service collecting donations. I was made to feel very welcome, and I was touched by the care given to this work and to the donors.
I will be delighted to come back and I will talk about this service at the clubhouse.
Thank you again for this special moment."
"Many thanks for this wonderful DuoDay at the Opéra-Comique National Theatre, where I was warmly welcomed by Ms Fiona Selly and the HR team, as well as other department representatives, who quickly made us feel at ease in the group of interns.
This event, which I recently learned about through my professional retraining programme at the Ministry of the Armed Forces, gave me a warm and transparent insight into how such a prestigious theatre in France operates.
As someone retraining in theatre, I was very impressed by all the artistic and administrative work presented during a comprehensive and impressive tour of the premises. The day was perfectly organised from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and included a very convivial lunch.
This day has been a driving force in my search for a career in the performing arts."
"Faced with such a warm welcome, one can only be disarmed. A dynamic, competent and passionate team, each in their own field. I leave with the feeling of having experienced something rare: a lively, committed and deeply human team. There are places you visit, and then there are places where you meet people. At the Opéra-Comique, it's both.
To all those who are still hesitating: give Duoday a try. Like me, you may discover much more than a building or a profession... you may discover a human warmth that you will never forget.
Sincerely, thank you."
