On 7th March 2018, the Afnor awarded the “Diversity” and “Professional gender equality” labels to the Opéra-Comique, alongside the Ministry of Culture.

We now must stimulate and ensure the traceability that safeguards equal treatment and prevention of discrimination in the work place, especially in terms of recruitment, public reception and access to employment for persons with disabilities.

The Opéra-Comique has implemented a dynamic pricing policy as well as cultural mediation activities in order to diversify its audience. We will keep on strengthening this policy.

In January 2017, the Opéra-Comique partnered with the Compagnie Sans Père to create the Maîtrise Populaire. Nestled in two Parisian establishments, the choir offers multidisciplinary artistic training to pupils aged 8 to 25, coming from diverse cultures and social backgrounds. This action plan will be further developed.

On a larger scale, the Opéra-Comique supports the values of openness and excellence, sustaining the promotion of any action that may contribute to the information and awareness of its staff and the prevention of discriminations while ensuring the full involvement of all the departments concerned in the implementation of actions aiming at diversifying audiences.

From its directors’ point of view, the artistic project and the social project of the Opéra-Comique are two sides of the same coin. Inside and out, the Afnor labels compel us to thrive and we will be reporting on our progresses on a regular basis.

The Freedom to choose your professional future Act, Law no 2018-771 of 5 September 2018, implemented the obligation for any employer to calculate its employees’ gender gap situation using 4 indicators. For the year 2021, the Opéra-Comique’s Professional gender equality index was: 82 points our of 100.

These results do not require the Opéra-Comique to take any action, but our institution remains active in implementing the provisions of the collective agreement on professional gender equality, which was signed in December 2018, as well as in supporting the action plan conceived within the framework of the Professional equality label. Our human resources’ management promotes professional equality, ensuring the diversity of some professions or the appointment of women to positions of responsibility, including those at the Opera’s management committee. Finally, any form of harassment is met with warnings and sanctions.

More than recognitions for our results, the “Diversity” and “Professional gender equality” labels constitute a major opportunity to strengthen the Opéra Comique’s policies, ensure their sustainability and better structure its processes around these core values.
