The Academie of the Opera-Comique | 2024-2025 season

en

A major player in operatic creation, the Opéra-Comique has launched its new Académie in 2023. Aimed at new generations of performers, the Académie de l'Opéra-Comique is designed to promote the comic opera genre and its specific art of interpretation, as close as possible to the texts and the stage, among young talent.

As a centre of artistic excellence in French singing and the art of the spoken and sung word, it nurtures the artistic vitality of the Opéra-Comique's opera season by promoting the values of fairness, diversity and inclusion that the theatre stands for. The Académie also aims to develop new ways of looking at opera and to encourage the emergence of new artistic formats through creative residencies and the continuous presence of 12 young artists throughout the opera season.

For almost 10 months on end, these young artists benefit from the availability of rehearsal spaces and individual work studios; training sessions with artists and professionals in the performing arts; and creative spaces with the opportunity to perform in opera productions or small-scale forms (concerts, recitals, etc.).

This season, the Académie welcomes :

  • 2 conductors ;
  • 5 opera artists
  • 2 pianists and vocal coaches.

Programme for the 2024-2025 season

Whether inventing an operatic form, building a recital programme, devising a participatory format or taking part in artistic and cultural activities, the Académie offers academicians a unique space for creativity as well as the opportunity to be immersed in the process of creating new opera productions.
This season, students will have the opportunity to take part in masterclasses with Cyrille Dubois, Louis Langrée, Sabine Devieilhe and Bill Christie, among others.... build up a new repertoire by learning roles from the opera season's productions.... They will be working with Myriam Marzouki to create a pocket opera: L'Ile de Merlin ou le Monde renversé by Gluck, which will be presented in June 2025 in the Salle Bizet. A partnership with the Musée d'Orsay will give them the opportunity to perform in this exceptional setting.

Committed to the values of transmission, broadening audiences and accessibility, the academicians will also take part in dedicated recitals for audiences with special needs, or for social workers.

Finally, they will benefit from training sessions with leading specialists in the Opéra-Comique repertoire: Jean-Claude Yon, Julia Gros de Gasquet, Olivier Bara and Judith Le Blanc.
