La Chambre Philharmonique

La Chambre Philharmonique

Composed between 1799 and 1805, these two symphonies summarize a change of period. Symphony No. 1 pays tribute to Viennese classicism. The proportions and fieriness of Symphony No. 3, the heroic, ushered in the Romantic century and made Beethoven its symbol. In 1828 the heroic was the first Beethoven's symphony to be played in Paris by the Société des Concerts du Conservatoire, which set the French capital as the heart of European music. In the setting of the Salle Favart, the musicians of the Chambre Philharmonique bring it back to mind by playing Beethoven with period instruments.
