Belles lettres of danse
Educational performance around Baroque dance
Under the ancien régime, the nobility and the courtiers practiced “Belle Danse” at the ball, a special event of social representation. Founded by Louis XIV in 1661, the Académie royale de danse sought to perfect this form of art. Dance writing, or "choreography”, still bears witness to its codification. Since the foundation of the Opéra de Paris and of the Opéra Comique, performances have extensively resorted to its elegance and virtuosity.
