From 2008 to 2015, during the eight seasons directed by Jérôme Deschamps, 29 international and interdisciplinary symposia devoted to French opera will have been held at the Opéra Comique, most of them jointly coordinated by the Opéra Comique and its main scientific partner, the Palazetto Bru Zane – Centre de musique romantique française.
Two books have been published by Symétrie to bear witness to the profusion of the early events: “L’Invention des genres lyriques français et leur redécouverte au XIXe siècle” (The Invention of the French Opera Genres and their Rediscovery in the 19th Century) and “Le Surnaturel sur la scène lyrique” (The Supernatural in Opera).
In 2015 the Opéra Comique will celebrate its tricentennial during the last season of Jérôme Deschamps’s directorship. The company decided to publish all the symposia and seminars of each season in order to disseminate them to the widest public through an easy access tool.
Thus, the Opéra Comique and the Palazetto Bru Zane devised an online publication on the Palazetto’s website, Bru Zane Mediabase.
Bru Zane Mediabase is intended for scholars and specialists as well as neophytes or those just curious. This site offers them numerous data about 19th century French musical heritage. There will be presentation indexes (people, works or themes) written by musicologists and historians working with the Palazetto Bru Zane. It will be possible to read and download many scientific articles on music and musical life during Romanticism. Iconographic documents from digitalized archives, 19th century press articles and administrative texts will make it possible to travel in a musical world that is largely forgotten.
Free and easy of access, the acts of the symposia at the Opéra Comique on Bru Zane Mediabase will present all the contributions as well as a summary of each article in French, English and Italian.
Mentioned in the 2014-2015 season brochure and the national celebrations calendar, this online publication, which will bear witness to eight years of research at the Opéra Comique, will be among the events of the tricentennial season in March 2015. As a mine of information on French opera, it will ensure the influence of the Opéra Comique and research in France.
