The reopening of the Opéra Comique theater delayed

The new season of the Opéra Comique with Fantasio by Offenbach, conducted by Laurent Campellone and directed by Thomas Jolly, will be launched as scheduled on 12 February 2017 at the Théâtre du Châtelet.
But the official reopening of our house is postponed  until 26 April 2017 with Alcione by Marin Marais, conducted by Jordi Savall and directed by Louise Moaty and Raphaëlle Boitel.

Initially scheduled next March, the world premiere of La Princesse légère by Violeta Cruz is postponed until next year due to restoration works of the Opéra Comique being delayed. Other events initially scheduled before April 24 at the Salle Favart will also be canceled or postponed.

Tickets to these events will be postponed or refunded. Click here for further information >

Once upon a time there was a princess with no gravity doomed to fly away and laugh at everything! Violeta Cruz and Jos Houben picked the tale by George MacDonald, emulated by Lewis Carroll, to concoct an enchanting production for young and old.

Opéra-comique to a libretto by Gilles Rico commissioned by the Opéra Comique. World premiere on 2 March 2017 at the Théâtre Impérial de Compiègne.

Once upon a time there was a princess who was a long desired single child cursed on birth by a witch to have absolute lightness: lightness of body that prevented her from touching the ground, lightness of spirit that made her laugh at everything. The king and the queen wondered what they could do with a daughter who could not grasp the gravity of things. Luckily, the princess was adventurous.

George MacDonald's fairy tales enchanted J.R.R. Tolkien and, first of all, his emulator Lewis Carroll. They are intended for children and those with a child's soul. With humor and poetry, The Light Princess touches on the way children confront the gravity of the adult world and how parents learn to recognize the singularity of each child.

A character flying and laughing on the stage of an opera house! Violeta Cruz and Jos Houben invent a score and an entertainment arising from the sound bursts of life, where electronics meet singing, concrete sounds and the sonic palette of opera.

Synopsis

The light princess is…. light! Since her birth she has been suffering the evil spell cast by a wicked and jealous witch: she has no gravity. It’s such a problem that her parents, the king and the queen, have to weight her with the furniture to keep her from being blown off. What’s more, she laughs at all times. There’s no way to make her realize the gravity of things. She takes anything seriously, she’s unbearable. The long desired single child does not meet her parents’ expectations. What can be done? Fortunately, her encounter with water will make her discover the meaning of her existence.
