The new school year of the Maîtrise populaire de l’Opéra Comique

06 September 2017

Euphoria prevailed at the doors to the Collège Couperin in Paris 4tharrondissement. The pupils and their parents were waiting for the doors to open. The new 6th graders were to begin the new school year, welcomed by the principal of the college Dominique Gory and the director of the Maîtrise Sarah Koné. A short welcome speech was delivered, books were distributed and the first lessons could begin.

The more experienced high school students inaugurated the part-time classes created this year in partnership with the Académie de Paris and the Lycée Georges Brassens in the 19tharrondissement. As an official academic partner, the Maîtrise will organize (in its premises of Rue François Miron in the morning) the multi-disciplinary musical classes of its pupils (choral singing, dance, vocal technique, drama, scenic training) who will then have to go to the Lycée Georges Brassens to attend classical teaching in the afternoon.

This innovation will ensure the continuity of the educational project of the Maîtrise from the end of primary school to the baccalauréat (high school diploma) by allowing pupils to tread the boards of the Opéra Comique.
