Margot Genet

The young soprano Margot Genet is an amazing discovery», wrote enthusiastically the daily newspaper Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung referring recently to the new member of the NRW Opera-Studio, a cooperation between the opera companies of Dortmund, Essen, Gelsenkirchen and Wuppertal.

Right before, the soprano with the «silvery top-register» (source: olyrix.com) attracted attention when joining the Opéra de Lyon opera-studio, the Academy Philippe Jaroussky (Beethoven year) and the Royaumont Foundation (2021). She was also an award-winner of the vocal competition of the Kammeroper Schloß Rheinsberg (2017) as well as a holder of the Hamel-support-scholarship (2016) and of the scholarship « Malvina et Denise Menda » from the Opéra Comique in Paris (2021). She is however recipient of a scholarship from the Richard-Wagner-Verband Dortmund in 2023.

Born in Limoges (France), Margot Genet took vocal and cello-lessons in her home-town before pursuing her studies at the Geneva Haute Ecole de Musique (taking a bachelor-degree) and at the University of the Arts Berlin (acquiring her Master in Opera Performance degree in Elisabeth Werres’ class in 2019). She has also taken part in numerous master-classes with Edith Wiens, Hedwig Fassbender, Elène Golgevit, Regina Werner and Ludovic Tézier. Already while studying she performed in staged productions of L'incoronazione di Poppea (Drusilla), Le Nozze di Figaro (Susanna), La Voix Humaine (La Femme) and The Turn of the Screw (Flora).

Since 2019 she appeared regularly with various opera-companies: With the Opéra de Lyon (The Fire, The Princess and The Nightingale in L'Enfant et les Sortilèges, Ygraine in Ariane et Barbe-Bleue, Poussette in Manon - also performed in concert version at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris), at the Royaumont Abbey (Poppea in Haendel’s Agrippina), at the Gelsenkirchen Opera (Eurydice in Orphée aux Enfers) and at the Dortmund Opera (title-role in Die Kinder des Sultans, a world-premiere by Avner Dorman).

For summer of this year she has been selected to join the prestigious Verbier Festival Academy’s Atelier Lyrique. This season’s plans include her debut as Norina (Don Pasquale) at the Gelsenkirchen Opera, Papagena (The Magic Flute) and Manja (Countess Mariza) at the Dortmund Opera, Barbarina (Le Nozze di Figaro) at the Wuppertal Opera as well as her debut at the Opéra Comique in Paris (Lisbé in Grétry's Zémire et Azor).

In concert she appeared recently at the Festival de l'Abbaye de Sylvanès (Fauré-Requiem), at the Festival 1001 Notes, at the Wurzburg Mozart Festival, with the Orchestre national de Lyon and with the Neue Philharmonie Westfalen. She collaborates on a regular basis with the ensemble Correspondances and gives frequently recitals together with pianist Justine Eckhaut.
